Poc aPoc
01 — The work
Poc a Poc (“little by little”, in Catalan) is an interactive work built from a painting by Chiara. The heart floats in three dimensions, painted with the fan-shaped stripes of the painting, and eighteen of its pieces lie on the floor.
A camera reads the visitor’s hands. An open hand near a piece marks it, and a river of light shows where it belongs; closing the hand picks it up. As it comes closer, the heart turns to receive it from the side, and the piece clicks into place with a sound of glass. With both hands, the heart can be turned.
The visitor appears on the screen as a pencil sketch: a construction mannequin with a faceless, egg-shaped head, as in a drawing notebook. When the last piece is in place, the heart beats and glows, and the drawn figure lights up with it. Touching it again brings it back to the centre, where it breaks into pieces once more.

02 — The story
Little by little
Poc a Poc comes from a need: the need to put oneself back together.
A heart is not rebuilt all at once. It is put back together piece by piece, with the hands, and each piece makes a small sound when it finds its place.
The heart does not beat until it is whole. And once it beats, touching it breaks it again: the game starts over, poc a poc.
03 — The artist

Damián Lafferranderie Peña (Maldonado, Uruguay, 1983) is a Uruguayan artist and creator based in Barcelona. He works at the crossroads of body, technology and cultural heritage. His interactive works run in the web browser and use the camera as their only sensor: the visitor's hands become the instrument.
He practised law in Uruguay for fifteen years. In 2023 the wave of artificial intelligence carried him to Barcelona, where he devotes himself fully to this revolution, and technology allowed him to make this kind of art.
He is the founder of Estudioprompt, an artificial intelligence studio whose purpose is to minimise the risks and maximise the benefits of this revolution. The works aim to be collaborative, open source and dynamic. In this space we are always looking for intelligent futures.
